The current poor run by Mascom Premier League side TAFIC has been attributed to the club's financial woes.

"We depend on gate takings for the day-to-day running of our club, as it has no official sponsor, unlike other clubs that enjoy good support from big name companies in Gaborone," said club chairman, Thomas Maika.

He added that the club's precarious financial situation has led to poor results and low morale among players. "Gate takings are our main source of income and this makes it difficult during the off season when there are no games. The money we get is, among other things, used on players' salaries and the technical staff, and this is often not enough," he lamented.

He denied reports that they have secured a sponsorship from Tati Nickel mining company. He said lack of finances is hindering their plans to set up development structures, for Under-15 and 17 as they gear up to go professional.

He said their search for a sponsor is continuing as they want to revive the club's fortunes. "As a club, you require a financial muscle in order to keep your players and the technical team happy. But a situation whereby you always find yourself in debts is not good for the team as some of our best players might be enticed by other clubs."

He acknowledged that players are sometimes paid late. But he played down accusations that management favours some players. TAFIC have hired Zimbabwean Willard Khumalo as the new coach. "You will be informed as soon as he arrives, and you will have a chance to talk to him," said Maika.

He denied that they have sacked caretaker coach, Ntime Ntime. He said it is not easy for Ntime, to juggle his teaching job and coaching, hence the need to bring in a fulltime coach.

On a positive note, Maika said they have been promised land at Gerald Estates to build a club house and training grounds.
