Gambia: Too Many Security Chiefs Dying - Jammeh to Follow Soon!!!

31 March 2008

editorial

Recent deaths involving senior security chiefs in this country, is a cause for concern. Last week, families mourned Pa Jallow, former Intelligence chief.

This week, we also heard about the sudden demise of prison Commissioner Rose Reilly. Prior to these deaths, three former close associates of the President also died. The former officers were: Major Musa Jammeh, alias Chemical Ali, Captain Tumbul Tamba and Captain Solomon Jammeh. These men were Jammeh's favorite killers in Banjul. They executed most of Jammeh's secret mission killings.

Death is inevitable. Every soul which tastes life, must taste death. Every Muslim believer must reconcile with such facts. But what is worrying, is the trend of these deaths. One is compelled to ask if foul play is not involved in these deaths. Our men in uniform are dying randomly? What have they done to God? Who have they offended? What went wrong? These are fundamental questions, which demand urgent answers.

There are different theories being advanced for these deaths. Some linked them to spiritual work, others say it might be as a result of natural causes. The former is a popular view being held in many quarters. That, spiritual handiworks must have been responsible for these deaths.

Reports say a grand Marabout in the sub-region was tasked to perform certain spiritual works against people, who might have hands- be it directly or indirectly into the murder of Daba Marena, Lowe and others. That, the Marabout had vowed that all those who have hands into the killing of these officers, would die one by one like chickens. Whether true or false, our security chiefs and soldiers are dying mysteriously.

While, we do not have any intention of linking Aunty Rose's death into above mentioned reports, what's clear though is that, she was in office when Daba and co were detained at the Mile Two.

The current trend is worrying, because, no nation wants to see its security chiefs dying under such mysterious circumstances. It appears that there is ghost fighting this administration. We call it a ghost, because no one is in the position to say what must have been responsible for these deaths.

There are reports suggesting that the President Yahya Jammeh himself is sick. He has lost weight dramatically in the recent times. The President also got tied easily, which is a sign of diabetic. His family said the President is suffering from diabetic. And, we have no reason to disbelieve these family members.

Our religious leaders should organize mass prayers for this country. We should pray to God to end the deaths and restore peace in the country. Our religious leaders should also prevail on the President to consider handing over the country, since he is not in the position to deliver the goods. Too much greed is bad. Jammeh has overstayed his welcome.

Unless, he wants to die violently, he should consider handing over the country. He cannot survive any other coup to come. There is growing discontent amongst the military. His own Jolla ethnic group are upset with him. No sane Gambian is happy today, with the current state of affairs.

We are sitting on a time bomb. This country's future is bleak as far as Yahya Jammeh continues to be the President. A sick President is presiding over a sick nation. Our people are at the mercy of Jammeh, who is taking them for a ride, because of their Godliness.

Jammeh's removal is justified. He has created the conditions for his removal from power. The international Community should step in to avoid another Liberia in the sub-region. Gambians are posed to take to the streets no time soon. Such an uprising will cost Jammeh his Government.

The Kombo Central incident was just the begining. There are more demos coming. Our people will use the streets to restore freedoms in this country. The military too are busy strategizing their plans to unseat the President. Only God knows what the future holds for this country. The world should come to Gambia's aid. We are foreseeing a full blown political turmoil in The Gambia, in days to come. This can be averted, if the world takes the necessary steps to compel Jammeh to step down from power.

Anything short of this, there is bound to be major political turmoil. The BBC, CNN, ABC News and other media outlets will soon have The Gambia on their airwaves. We know what we are talking about. Our country's security is at stake!!!
