After two days of play some Provinces are already distancing themselves.
After an exhibition feminine football encounter pitting two local selected football squad and a firm promised by the Minister of Secondary education Louis Bapes Bapes to crack-down on cheaters, it is football, basketball, table tennis, volleyball and handball that has been pulling the crowd in the different stadia.
In football after three matches played, the South and North West Provinces are occupying the first and second positions in pool A with 6 and 2 points respectively, while in pool B, the Littoral and West Provinces are dictating the pace with 4 and 3 points each. So far, there has been no major incident recorded apart from the exclusion from the competition of Frank Youaleu, player from Lycee Classique of Bafang for insulting the match commissioner and the disqualification of two Bertoua players from taking part in the competition because of the non-conformity of their dates of birth on their identity cards and their licenses.
In basketball, it is the South and the North West Provinces that are dominating in their different pools. After two matches, the boys from the South Province beat the North Province 52 - 47 and the South West 28 - 15. In pool B, the North West has registered two victories after beating the Centre and Littoral Provinces on 37 - 29 and 32 - 31 baskets respectively. In the female category, Littoral and South Provinces are on track in pool A and B respectively after scoring two victories each.
In volleyball, the West and North Provinces are neck-a-neck on top of pool A with two points followed by the Adamawa with 1 point. While in pool B, the East and North Provinces are also tied on two points each. In the female category, the Littoral and West Provinces do champion pool A, while the Centre and Adamawa Provinces are heading Pool B.
Stakes are also high in handball where the Centre and North West Provinces are topping pool A and B, with 3 and 4 points respectively after two matches. In the female category, the Centre and South West have scored 4 points each after two matches.
Table Tennis just like most of the other disciplines is still at its eliminatory phase. At press time yesterday, the qualifying round of the men's double had rounded up with Centre and West Provinces qualifying in pool A, the North West and Adamawa in pool B and the South West and Far North Provinces picking the pool C round two tickets.
In gymnastic, after the first round qualifying phase, only three provinces are left on the race; the centre with 6 athletes, East with 5 athletes, West with 3 athletes and Adamawa with one athlete. The competition continues
