The Botswana Darts Association (BODA) has netted P128,469 in revenue in the financial year ended December 2007. BODA treasurer, Gabriel Ngele said at the association's Annual General Meeting (AGM) at Prisons Hall on Saturday that a substantial portion of the money came from the Botswana National Sports Council (BNSC) grant.

The BNSC gave BODA P107,000. The association collected P6,000 in tournament fees while the rest of the money came from miscellaneous income. Ngele disclosed that the revenue indicated a 26 percent drop when compared to previous year's figure of P173, 415. The expenditure for the year ended December 2007 was P169, 620 reflecting a 17 percent decline on the 2006 figure of P206,323. The treasurer's report revealed that expenses for Zone VI activities were only half the 2007 figure at P86,219. BODA had local tournaments whose expenditure amounted to P20,252 compared to previous year's figure of P2,780. "This is commendable as this goes to improve and give players opportunity to shine. The only drawback is lack of sponsorship for such noble courses," said Ngele.

He added that as a result, the association recorded a deficit of P41,151. BODA was allocated P250,000 by the BNSC for the government financial year running from April 2007 to March 2008. The treasurer's report says P50,000 allocated to administration has been used while only P29,642 of the P55,000 set aside for athletes has been disbursed. The coaches were allocated P20, 000 and the amount has not been utilised so far. Equipment and regional activities got P7,500 and P65,000 respectively. While P6,345 has been utilised on equipment, P48,940 has been taken up by regional activities. Sports development got P37,500.

Meanwhile, BODA spokesperson, Peter Sekgwama told Mmegi Sport yesterday that they have not got sponsorship for the league. He added that they have decided to continue sponsoring the league from internal resources while the search for external financiers continue. The league has been running without a sponsorship for about six years after the departure of Hansa Pilsener.

Sekgwama added that they are worried that northern teams are dying a slow death. He said the clubs say they have been affected by the transfer of some of the officials. He said they have told the clubs that the transferred officials did not move with the offices.

The clubs have promised to do their best to stay afloat.
