Ghana: Sportsmen And Women Urged to Desist From Alcoholism And Drugs

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Kwabre East, Mr. Kofi Frimpong has called on up-and-coming sportsmen and women to desist from alcoholism and drugs so as to avoid ruining their lives.

The MP also urged them to imbue attitudes of the spirit of good sportsmanship and train seriously to improve on their performance.

Mr. Frimpong said these when he presented prizes to five football clubs which participated in the finals of the Kwabre East Ghana @ 50 inter-zonal soccer gala held at Ahwia JHS Park on Easter Monday.

The competition, sponsored by the MP was to unearth talents and to make the youth of the constituency have the full impact of the nation's 50th anniversary celebration which comes off this year.

New Asonomaso zonal team emerged winners of the gala when they beat Antoa 5-4 on penalties after a pulsating goalless drawn game and received a giant silver cup and 50 Ghana Cedis as their prize.

The runners-up, Antoa had 30 Ghana Cedis, while Kenyase who placed third after winning their match against Asenua-Fowoade also 4-3 on penalties had 20 Ghana Cedis.

Asenua-Fawoade and Adanwomase teams received 10 Cedis each which unfortunately was disrupted by a heavy downpour.

Messrs. Ernest Oppong-Poku, Edward Frimpong and Kwabena Kessie joint organizers of the competition commended the players for exhibiting a high sense of discipline throughout the gala and urged them to keep up the spirit.

Oheneba Kwaku Dua, Kwabre East Constituency Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), said more of such competitions would be organized in the district to unearth talents to enhance sports development in the country.
