Following reports of the purported expulsion of vendors at the main car park at Brikama, and the eviction of more than one hundred compounds at Brikama Wellingara, close to the new Brikama craft market, the PRO of Brikama Area Council refuted such reports.
Speaking to this reporter on Tuesday 25 March, 2008, the Public Relations Officer of the Brikama Area Council, Mr. Seringe Modou Joof, said vendors who established stores or tables at the centre of the main car park will be vacated. On why the purported expulsion of the said vendors, Mr. Joof said having stores or tables at the centre of the car park have rendered the place unsafe and congested.
BAC PRO revealed that his council is working on plans to identify a place for the relocation of the affected vendors.
On the purported eviction of more than one hundred compounds, Mr. Joof said the Brikama Area Council does not notice any compound owner to vacate, but that the said area is a reserved land earmarked for parastatal organisations such as NAWEC etc.
Speaking further Mr. Joof said the said area is earmarked by the Land Administrative Board.
