Angola: Kwanza Sul - Welfare Ministry Outlines Working Strategy

Social Welfare Ministry (MINARS) opened Tuesday, in coastal Kwanza Sul province, its 17th Broad Consultative Council aimed at balancing the activities developed in 2007 and outline working strategies for 2008, according to the new political and social context in the country.

The three-day meeting, taking place in Sumbe city, is being presided over by the incumbent minister, João Baptista Kussumua, under the working agenda "presentation of report about the activities carried out in 2007" , "assessment of the commitment of the sector in the framework of general programme of the Government" and "the role of the assistant of social educator in socioeconomic development of Angola".

"Kixi-credit for promotion and social integration of disadvantageous groups", "MINARS' plan for 2009-2013", "the social assistance to the victims of HIV/AIDS pandemic", "methodological guidance on the fulfilment of the 11 compromises of the government'", "United Nations' agencies and social partners ", "creation of higher education institute for social service of Angola", are among the matters to be addressed.

The local governor, Serafim Maria do Prado, in his capacity of host, encouraged the participants to contribute with clear proposals, turning the implementation into the proposal of strategic re-direction for MINARS.

Addressing an opening session, the Social Welfare minister, João Baptista Kussumua, asked the participants to discuss on the assistance and social integration of disadvantageous groups, disabled people, elderly, protection and development of children and reintegration of ex-soldiers.

The event gathers vice-ministers of the sector, Clarice Kaputo, Miguel Ângelo "Vietname" and Maria da Luz, as well as the national and general directors, head of departments, Ministry's consultants and provincial directors.
