Angola: President Dos Santos Receives Portugal's Communist Party Leader

Luanda — Angola's head of State José Eduardo dos Santos Tuesday here granted an audience to the leader of Portuguese Communist Party (PCP) Jerónimo de Sousa, who highlighted "the deep, solidarity and historical relationship between his political party and Angola.

Speaking to the press at the end of the meeting, Jeronimo de Sousa recalled that just after the fall of fascist regime in Portugal, PCP was the political force that clearly expressed for the recognition of Angola's independence and also the role of MPLA, the ruling party in Angola.

The PCP leader also expressed to the president José Eduardo dos Santos the solidarity of Portuguese people with Angolans, wishing that the relations be strengthened.

"These are relations that respect the willing of each people in the building of their own destiny and without interference and paternalism", he underlined.

In the other part of his statements, the Portuguese politician stressed the peace attained in Angola and the engagement of Angolan Government in the national reconstruction and achievement of social and economic development.

"During the meeting it was felt the trust of the President of the Republic related to the near future of the country's development and social justice", he referred.

Jerónimo de Sousa is the president of PCP for more than three years. PCP was founded in 1921 and it has 12 MPs at the Assembly of the Republic, out of 230 seats in this Portuguese legislative organ.
