Francistown — A Gumare Police Station female officer has been laid to rest and two of her colleagues are still recuperating at Nyangabgwe Hospital after a duty vehicle that they were patrolling in capsized along the Shakawe/Sehithwa road almost two weeks ago.
The accident is said to have been caused by an elephant, which was crossing the road, resulting in the driver's panic.
There were five police officers in the vehicle but the other two escaped with minor injuries.
Co-workers, family and friends paid their tributes to Sub Inspector Kefilwe Seleke in her home village of Mochudi over the Easter holiday, Traffic Officer Commanding District No5, Alfred Magudu, said.
In an interview with The Voice on Tuesday morning, Magudu expressed his sympathy not only to the family of the deceased but said that Seleke had left an emendable gap in the police force.
He said that the late Sub-Inspector was a hard working officer who performed her duties with dedication and loyalty throughout her service. He also wished the two admitted officers fast recovery. Sub-Inspectors Ketshepile Leeme sustained some rib fractures and Selike Albert Moeng is nursing a fractured ankle.
