Jwaneng

Two people, a passenger and a driver sustained minor injuries after a truck they were travelling in overturned in Jwaneng on Monday.

According to Jwaneng police spokesperson Assistant Superintendent Kagiso Othibetse the truck was loaded with more than 500 crates of beer.

Speaking in an interview Superintendent Othibetse said the truck was from Namibia to Gaborone, adding that the cause of the accident was not yet known.

Superintendent Othibetse however, advised drivers travelling long distance to always have enough rest, saying fatigue had became the main contributory factor of avoidable road accidents.

Mr Amos Kandyi, a co-driver said he did not see what happened as he was only awakened by the accident.

He said they left Namibia on Sunday in the afternoon to deliver their consignment to Dafin Sales in Gaborone

Mr Kandyi said his colleague took over the steering wheel when they were just 20 km to reach Jwaneng because he felt tired.

Police reported that after the accident members of the public and motorists stole thousands of beers.
