Two University of Botswana students, both aged 19, were found dead on Tuesday in what the police believe was a murder-suicide case.

The station Commander of Central Police Station Superintendent Takongwa Mazwiduma confirmed the incident but said their investigations are still continuing.

He said the police suspect that an argument might have arisen between the two, which led to the boy killing the girlfriend before hanging himself. Superintendent Mazwiduma said the boy hanged himself within the school compound using a shoestring while the girl was found gagged with pieces of toilet papers inside her mouth in the boyfriend's room.

University of Botswana Student Welfare Department also confirmed the incident saying the boyfriend, who hails from Mmadinare, was a first year Bachelor of Science student while the Mahalapye born girlfriend was also doing first year in Bachelor of Arts.

The bodies of the deceased are at Princess Marina Hospital awaiting postmortem.
