Botswana: Crash Claims Seven Lives

Seven Batswana pilgrims died when their vehicle was involved in a head on collision in South Africa on Sunday.

They were members of the Zion Christian Church (ZCC) returning from a church mass at Moria, the church's headquarters. The accident occured along the R521 national road near Polokwane in South Africa.

According to the communications officer in the Department of Transport in South Africa, Mr Boiki Tsedu, the accident occured around 10 o' clock in the morning.

He said the deceased where traveling back home in a sedan car. He said it appeared the driver was trying to overtake when he hit an on-coming truck killing him and six passengers.

Mr Tsedu said that investigations were still ongoing. He said preliminary results of their investigations show that there were seven people in a car meant to carry only five.

The South African Police Provincial communications officer,Mr Mohale Ramotseba said the deceased were taken to a nearby hospital motuary.He could not say whether the bodies were still in South Africa.

Acting Station Commander at Tonota Police,Inspector Loeto Ramabokwa said two of the seven were from one village.There was no immediate information concerning the remaining five.
