Nigeria: Nyako, Bapetel Take Campaign to Cameroon Border

Lagos — The main candidates for the April 12, repeatelection in Adamawa State, Former Governor Murtala Nyako (PDP) and his Action Congress (AC) opponent, Ibrahim Bapetel yesterday took their campaigns to Nigeria/Cameroon border towns.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Nyako's train was at Pariyaand Wuro-Bokki border town facing the Cameroon Republic. Nyako told supporters that he would provide viable road networks, drinking water, and functional education forthem if re-elected.

He promised that he would liaise with the Federal Government to provide amenities to all communities living along the international boundary.

Nyako accompanied by Minister of State for Culture and Tourism, Idi Hong, Senator Jibril Aminu and other party stalwats urged the electorate to shun money politics. He also urged them to shun religious,tribal and ethnic politics and to turn outen mass and vote for him to enablehim to complete the viable projectshe had started.

The PDP governorship candidate said that he would enhance the skills acquisition programme he had earlier embarked upon before his exit. The Action Congress train led by Alhaji Ibrahim Bapetel, had also visited the southern border towns between Nigeria and Cameroon Republic.

Bapetel while addressing party faithfuls in Toungo, Ganye and Jada, assured them that he would ensure regular payment of pensions,gratuity and personnel emoluments to civil servants if elected.

He also promised to uphold and improvethe wellbeing of traditional institutionswhich according to him, were neglected by the past administration. Bapetel also said that he would eliminateethnicism and ensure that no person orgroup of persons was treated as secondclass citizens.

Bapetel promised to create employmentopportunities for women and youthsthrough various skills acquisition programmedesigned by his party.He said that water, roads, electricity,schools and house would be providedfor the poor that constituted the majorityof the population.
