2 April 2008

The three storey building is located in the Bastos neighbourhood in Yaounde.

The new office of the United Nations Education Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) was officially inaugurated last Thursday in Yaounde. The office has moved from its old location in the Yaounde central town to the Bastos neighbourhood precisely "Nouvelle route Bastos". The building has been donated to UNESCO by the Cameroon government following excellent ties between Cameroon and UNESCO.

Speaking during the occasion, the Resident Representative of UNESCO, Bernard Hadjadj, said the building is the proof of confidence the Cameroon government has for the services rendered by the organisation in Cameroon. The building hosting the offices of UNESCO is a three storey building. The ground floor has a conference hall, documentation centre and restaurant for the personnel. The first floor is mostly culture and sciences and communication. The second floor is hosting the sector of education and the project MINSANTE/BAD/UNESCO and finally the third floor is reserved for administrative and financial affairs. On her part, the Minister of Basic Education and President of National Commission for UNESCO, Haman Adama, said cooperation between Cameroon and UNESCO is manifested through the opening of a Cameroon delegation of UNESCO in Paris, creation of a national Commission of UNESCO for Cameroon and the opening of a bureau of UNESCO which covers Cameroon, Central African Republic and Chad in Yaounde.
