Monrovia — Seventy officers of the Police Support Unit (PSU) of the Liberia National Police have been dismissed from the service.
According to a special bulletin which was signed by the LNP Chief of Personnel, the 70 officers were dismissed for "accumulating constant Absence Without Leave (AWOL)", which contravenes Part II Article II Section V of the Police Duty Manual.
The dismissed officers have been asked to turn over all government properties including badges, uniforms, I.D. cards and boots to the Personnel Division for onward transmission to the Logistics Division.
"In view of the foregoing, you are seriously advised to desist from identifying yourself with the organization to avoid future embarrassment," the bulletin stated.
Meanwhile, three officers of the Crime Services Department have been suspended indefinitely with salary deduction for unnecessary use of force.
The three officers were suspended for "Police Brutality," something the authorities said violates Part I, article III of the Police Duty Manual, under the caption "Misuse of Power".

I am a Liberian currently residing in the US. I just want to recognize that the police is actually taking some action against such officers. I also recognize that there is a lot of work the needs to be done. One thing that bothers me about the Police is that, they don't know what the job actually entails .
They are taking advantage of the power given to them. Some officer are abusing power. Children are being hanged. My question is where are the police. Journalist are being beating for reporting the News. In one case, a journalist was beaten and detained for reporting on child protection. what I could not understand was that it was ordered by a civilian.
These kinds of actions, by those who are to be protecting the Citizens of Liberia, discourages and hurts Liberia developmental process. The government needs to investigate these incidents and bring these criminals to Justice.
We all need to work together to develop our country. Our leaders should learn from history and from other African countries that, it is not the abuse of power that makes one a great leader or makes your subjects love you. Respect and Serve your people Liberians. Be the mother of AFRICA.
