Liberia: Fire Outbreak At Firestone Again

The Management of Firestone Liberia has suffered another setback as a result of a fire outbreak, which occurred on Friday, March 28, 2008, at Division 6.
The fire started at about 2:00pm; and destroyed one hundred and seventy six (176) young rubber trees located within a portion of block fifty nine (59).
According to Officer Samuel Grant of the Plant Protection Department (PPD) of Firestone, who is heading the investigation of the fire outbreak, no arrest has been made in connection with this latest incident, but said it is believed that some unidentified individuals might have set the affected area at ablaze for some unknown selfish motives.
He pointed out that the perpetrators might have taken advantage of the isolated location of the affected block. He said owing to the isolation of the affected area, the possibility exists for any one with bad intent to go through with out being noticed.

He further narrated that employees and others got to know about the fire outbreak when they saw a cloud of smoke in the air from the direction where the fire started. "The fire was cut off through the assistance of the Fire Service Department of Firestone Liberia along with the acting Superintendent, Harrison Wallace and his co-workers." Officer Grant noted. Officer Grant further revealed that attempts were also made by the perpetrators to set blocks 51 and 57 in Division 4 ablaze; as was evidenced by some burning spots within these areas.
