Liberia: Four Off to India-Africa Summit

Four Liberians representing women and youth over the weekend departed Monrovia for India to participate in the India-Africa Forum Summit, an outreach Program for women and youth.

A release from the office of the Honorary Consulate General of India said Mrs. Cecelia Z. Wounuah of the Catholic Church of Liberia and Ms. Famatta Wonketeh, a student activist at the University of Liberia are representing the Liberian women, while the youth group is represented by Messrs. Lincoln G.S. Morris and Arthur Gibson, Health Coordinator of the Catholic of Liberia and the Non-governmental Organization sector respectively.

According to the release, the Outreach Program, first of its kind, is being fully sponsored by the government of India with over 50 African countries participating along with their Indian counterparts.

Commencing on Thursday, March 27 through April 8, 2008, the program involves tours of some important states and cities in India including Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Anand and Bangalore.

In the City of Bangalore, participants will visit the Bhoomi (Earth) E-Governance Project of Karnataka State for Computerization of Land records, as well as the Centre for Sustainable Technology.

Other cities and states to be visited are Biocon, where they will take a tour of the facilities of India's premier biotechnology company, and also Shillong to visit an important bamboo factory.

The two groups will also be opportuned to visit the 7th Wonder of the World, TAJ MAHAL in Agra.

"The program also involves a few formal events such as interactive sessions on health issues with Government and local NGOs and youth, issues and challenges facing youth-India and Africa, cultural programs, and ending with the plenary of the India-Africa Forum Summit in New Delhi and calls on dignitaries," the release added.
