Liberia: British Envoy, Defense Minister Hold Tête-à-tête

A Defense Ministry statement issued yesterday said the Minister of National Defense, Brownie J. Samukai has lauded the British government for its continuous support aimed at enhancing the ongoing security sector reform program in the country.
Great Britain is one of the many countries providing financial and technical support to Liberia security reform initiatives.
He was speaking at the Defense Ministry yesterday when British Ambassador Sarah McIntosh accompanied by UK Political Counselor in Liberia, Gillian Dare called on him.
The release signed by Kpor Gbain said Minister Samukai made specific reference to the gesture of the British Government in providing technical advice to the staff of the Defense Ministry through the UK Military Advisor Col Robert Knight.
The Minister further expressed gratitude to the British government for its recent effort by providing two overseas scholarships for the capacity building of two of the ministry's female staff.
He said he looks forward to more of such capacity building opportunities from the British government for utilization by both the AFL and other civilian staff of the his ministry.
Amb. McIntosh pledged her government's unflinching support to the ongoing restructuring exercise for the new Armed Forces of Liberia.

The Ambassador expressed delight over efforts being made by the authorities of the Defense Ministry in the restructuring exercise. She praised Min. Samukai for his preparedness to provide vital information to bilateral partners on the overall progress been achieved thus far within the Security Sector Reform program.
