2 April 2008

Serejeka — Irrigation farming activities in Geshinashim and its surroundings, Serejeka sub-zone, are showing encouraging outcome, and as such should be emulated by the inhabitants of other areas, stated Mr. Gaim Tekia, Chairman of the Economic Development Committee in the aforementioned area.

Mr. Gaim indicated that the 30-hectare farm plots being irrigated from the nearby micro-dam are in good condition thanks to the coordinated endeavors of the branch office of the Ministry of Agriculture and the Administration of the Central region. There are also plans to cultivate up to 100 hectares once the newly introduced technology is fully applied.

The Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Arefaine Berhe, lauded the initiatives being taken in Geshinashim and stressed their significance in reinforcing the ongoing efforts to achieve food security.

Likewise, the Administrator of the Central region, Mr. Tewolde Kelati, stated that the regional administration would do its level best in backing up such an initiative.
