Non governmental organisations (NGOs) associated with education against landmines, in eastern Moxico province, Wednesday defended the need to implement social activities in favour of disabled people who were victims of landmine accidents.

The appeal was made during an activity marking the celebrations of April 04, the International Day for Mine Awareness and Assistance in Mine Action, held Wednesday in the provincial capital, Luena.

Participants to the event have also reviewed the Ottawa Treaty, in Canada, which bans the use, production, storing and transfer of antipersonnel landmines, signed by 157 countries, worldwide.

Under the date, the NGOs will also conduct a series of workshops and photograph exhibitions portraying signs and messages on the dangers of landmines.
