An Ikeja magistrate's court has arraigned a middle aged man on a two-count charge of dangerous driving and manslaughter.
The accused person Peter Otobor of No.9, Umunkwo Street, Asaba, Delta State is being accused of killing one Mrs. Olaniyi Olubukola with a Man Diesel Truck with registration number XN 911 GGE along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, inward Lagos by Alausa secretariat in Ikeja.
Sergeant Chris Takin, the prosecutor told the court that the victim, Mrs. Olubukola who was driving a Toyota Carina II saloon car with registration number HG 996 KJA was carrying one Mr. Taiwo Oladejo who sustained injury in the ill-fated accident that led to her death.
In his plea for bail on behalf of Otobor, Mr. F. O. Nwosi the defence counsel claimed that "the accused was only trying to obey the law when the accident happened".
He said that "the accused wouldn't have fallen victim of the offence he is being accused of it not for the sake of his being a law abiding citizen".
Mrs. Aje Afunwa, the magistrate, granted bail to the accused person for N100,000 and two sureties in the same sum, while they should be blood relations and gainfully employed with affidavit of means.
She, therefore, adjourned the case till April 21, 2008 for further hearing.
