Liberia: Defense Minister Praises British Government

The Minister of National Defense, Brownie J.Samukai Jr. has lauded the British Government for its continuous support aimed at enhancing the ongoing Security Sector Reform program in the country.
Minister Samukai made the assertion when the British Ambassador, Sarah McIntosh accompanied by UK Political Counselor in Liberia, Madam Gillian Dare paid a courtesy call on him at the Defense Ministry yesterday.
Minister Samukai made specific reference to the gesture of the British Government in providing technical advice to the staff of the Defense Ministry through the UK Military Advisor, Col Robert Knight.
The Minister further expressed gratitude to the British Government for its recent effort by providing two overseas scholarships for the capacity building of two of the ministry's female staff. Minister Samukai said he looks forward to more of such capacity building opportunities from the British Government for utilization by both the AFL and other civilian staff of the ministry.
For her part, Ambassador McIntosh pledged her government's unflinching support to the ongoing restructuring exercise for the new Armed Forces of Liberia. The Ambassador expressed delight over efforts being made by the authorities of the Defense Ministry in the restructuring exercise. She praised Minister Samukai for his preparedness to provide vital information to bilateral partners on the overall progress been achieved thus far within the Security Sector Reform program.
