A prefectorial order recently annulled the SDF party's programme to attend the funeral ceremony of Fon Maurice Tanjong Tukop III of Mbot, in Nkambe Central Subdivision.
A fortnight before the funeral day (Sunday, March 23) Nkambe SDF MP, Hon. Cyprain Awudu Mbaya, had made public their programme for the funeral ceremony in Mbot. But this was followed by a prefectorial order signed by the First Assistant SDO for Donga-Mantung, Mathias Fombele, and aired severally annulling the SDF programme.
The order scheduled the reception of the Minister of Culture, Amah Tutu Muna, at the Mbot Palace on the same date.Despite the annulling order, SDF authorities prepared their programme considering the order as "a piece of sublime mysticism."
Although Amah Tutu did not meet up with the programme, a delegation led by Emmanuel Ngafesson Bantar, Secretary of State for Penitentiary Administration, accompanied by Donga-Mantung SDO, Godlive Mboke Ntua, were received by Awudu Mbaya and Esther Ngala, Nkambe and Ndu MPs respectively, and hundreds of their militants at the Mbot Palace.
For over an hour, the administration found it difficult to include the SDF on its agenda. It took Dr. Omer Weyi Yembe, former GCE Board Registrar, to throw cold water on the issue.
According to Awudu Mbaya, nobody had the right to stop them from attending the funeral of Fon Tanjong Tukop III on their planned date.
He argued that as per the Northwest tradition, any person or group can attend a funeral at their convenience.Awudu described the order annulling their presence at the funeral as a fault-finding machination. However, the SDF played it cool and its militants joined Ngafesson's delegation in gun firing and several traditional dances.
In a welcome speech, one of the sons of the village, Jones Mangoh Tanko, traced the genealogy of the Mbot fondom from Tukop in 1932, through Mbunwe, Abraham Tangem to Maurice Manjong Tukop III who ruled from 1987 to March 19, 2008.
On his part, Ngaffesson identified himself as a nephew given that his mother hailed from Mbot Palace. He said such occasions were often inclusive rather than exclusive, implying that it was open to everyone at any time.

After the departure of Ngafesson's delegation, the SDF took over the show renting the air with gun shots and dances.
