The secretary general of Angola's governing MPLA party, Julião Mateus Paulo "Dino Matrosse", Thursday here said that the peace achieved six years ago has enabled to attain the ideals which were used to form the Party, such as dignity and betterment of national citizens' living conditions.

Dino Matrosse, who was speaking to Angop, on the occasion of the sixth anniversary of peace and national reconciliation to be celebrated on 4th April, said that peace is a great good that came to stay.

According to him, the current period of peace is facilitating the implementation of the ruling MPLA party and the nation's rebuilding and development programme, as well as providing better living conditions to citizens.

For MPLA Secretary General, from the liberation struggle up to 4th April 2002, date of signing of the protocol of understanding between the Government and former rebel movement Unita, there used to be an economy of subsistence, defence of human life and protection of national property.

The politician also highlighted that it has been observed throughout the country a plan to develop and revitalize the economic sector, stabilize the currency, rebuild and build roads.

He referred that Angola plays an important role within the region since peace has been achieved, which helps to increase the political and economical stability of the continent.

Peace benefits not only the country but also families. Many people used to live in bad conditions in urban areas decided to return to their villages where they have farms and can breed animals to improve their living conditions.

He recognized that there are still difficulties among families but they are not compared to the situation lived before 2002, where many beggars were seen in the streets.

Dino Matrosso underlined that his party priority should always be aimed at creating citizens living conditions in order to contribute to the Nation welfare, appealing the population and militaries, in particular, to participate in Angola's development.

The most doubtful people should believe in the time to come. A lot of difficulties were overcome, therefore we should believe and work to develop the country, he said.

Before the witness of the international community, it has been 6 years that the memorandum of understanding complementary to the Lusaka Protocol was signed on 4th of April and marked the end of 27 years of war which destroyed the country and it urged the national reconstruction and reconciliation of Angolans.

This sublime event was signed by the then chief of staff of the Angolan Armed Forces (FAA), General Armando da Cruz Neto, and by the former chief of high command of Unita military forces, General Geraldo Abreu Muengo "Kamorteiro", in a ceremony attended by the President of Republic, José Eduardo dos Santos, international community representatives, and local and foreign entities.
