The Eritrean Ministry of Health and the Italian region of Toscany concluded a protocol agreement today on constructing a pediatrics hospital within the premises of the Orotta Hospital here in the capital.

The construction of the ground +1 hospital is expected to alleviate the shortage of rooms in the existing pediatrics hospital besides rendering efficient service.

The agreement was signed by the Ministry of Health, Mr Saleh Meki, and Prof. Massimo Toschi, Regional Minister for International Cooperation, Forgiveness and Reconciliation, representing the Toscany region.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Mr. Saleh Meki noted the existing close relations between Eritrea and Italy and indicated that as a result of the relations established with the Toscany region six years ago encouraging tasks have already been accomplished. He further expressed appreciation to the initiative taken by the region in constructing the hospital.

Prof. Massimo Toschi said on his part that such an initiative emanates from the region's desire to collaborate in promoting child welfare. He also stated that the construction of the hospital would play a significant role in further strengthening Eritrean-Italian relations.
