Eritrean nationals residing in the United States held their annual meeting from March 29 to 30 in Washington D.C. to assess public and consular activities.

At the opening session, the Eritrean Ambassador to the US, Mr. Girmai Gebremariam, gave briefings on the objective political, economic and social situation in the Homeland. The Ambassador also called on the participants to step up their participation in the national development drive so as to overcome all challenges.

Following presentation of reports on work accomplishments in 2007 in different US cities, the participants conducted in-depth discussion on possible hostilities and future work programs.

Different study papers were presented in the meeting, including economic activities and the question of self-reliance, the role of coordinating and developing regional and communal mass media work, the significance of effective organizational structure and getting organized, coordination of community and national associations and the importance of efficient consular service to the public, among others.
