Liberia: Everton Takes 14-Year Old Liberian

The Ottawa Fury Soccer Club is delighted to announce that 14-year old striker Abraham Donzo has been invited to pay a second visit to the Academy program of English Premier League side Everton Football Club. Abraham who spent two weeks late last year training with the academy players of the English Premier League side will spend his March Break in Liverpool, England.
Abraham, a Grade 9 student at Colonel By High School arrived in Canada in September 2005 from Liberia. Now in his third season with the Fury, Abraham has played for the U15, U16 and U17 Boys Super Y-League squads under coaches Jason Whiting, Steve Spence and currently Klaus Linnenbruegger. He was previously a member of the Eastern Ontario Regional and Ontario Provincial squads.
"We have all been pleased and excited by the progress that Abraham has made over the past year. As a talented young player he still has aspects of the game he has to continue to develop, and the opportunity to train at the Everton academy will certainly improve his skill sets.", commented Fury Technical Director, Colin McCurdy. "Ray Hall, the Everton Academy Director, was pleased with Abraham's performance and arranged for this second opportunity for Abraham to be evaluated by the Everton staff. We are all delighted to see one of our talented young Fury players being given this chance and that Everton are keen to develop an ongoing relationship with the Fury."
While with Everton last year, Abraham trained daily with players from the Everton academy and had the opportunity to participate in two games against academy sides from Manchester United and Bolton Wanderers. When asked about the opportunity at Everton, Abraham replied, "I really enjoyed the chance to play with some of the best young players in England every day and am looking forward to showing them that I can compete at their level".

The most famous graduate of the Everton FC youth academy is Wayne Rooney, the England star who was transferred from Everton to Manchester United. Rooney was signed by Everton shortly before his 11th birthday and gained national prominence when he became the youngest goal scorer in the history of the English Premier League at 16 years and 360 days. Rooney was transferred to United in a deal worth more than $60 million dollars. In recent years, the Everton academy has produced a stream of players who have gone onto to play in the Premier League for the club.
