Nigeria: Free Education - Afenifere Deplores Daniel's Comment

Lagos — Afenifere, the pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, yesterday deplored the comment of Ogun State Governor, Gbenga Daniel, that the free education policy of late Chief Obafemi Awolowo in the Western Region of Nigeria is no longer feasible, as a result of 'population explosion.'

Daniel was quoted as saying "what was obtainable in the old Western Region under the late Obafemi Awolowo is no longer feasible." In a statement, National Publicity Secretary of the group, Mr Yinka Odumakin, condemned the statement, saying it was rather an expression of misplaced priority.
