Cross River — Governor Liyel Imoke of Cross River State has said that peace is the pre-requisite for the development of the South South geo-political Zone because it will attract foreign investors to the country.
Imoke made the assertion in his office while receiving a detachment of Course 16 National Defence College led by Brig. Gen. Adamu Buba Marwa during a courtesy call. He said that Cross River is the most peaceful state in Nigeria.
According to him, "the state treasures peace and works hard to maintain it, this makes it a right environment for investment". He hopes that the team which was mainly foreign students would find its visit to Cross River State useful to its programmes.
The governor disclosed that the states development thrust is focused on tourism development because it has natural comparative advantage over other states.
The leader of the group, Brig. Gen. Adamu Buba Marwa, who described the institution as the highest military college in Nigeria, said students are admitted from fellow sister countries and beyond the continent, adding that it is traditional that they visit selected states to broaden their perception of Nigerian culture and tradition.
Students from the College drawn from Congo, Sierra Leone, Mali, Benin, Burkina Faso, Togo, Niger, Ghana and Cameroon who are expected to spend three days in the state on field work would visit Marina Resort, Tinapa Business Resort, Kwa and Agbokim Falls and Obudu Ranch Resort amongst other tourism sites in the state.
