Maputo

A South African religious organization, based in Cape Town, is preparing to set up a workshop in Mozambique to produce wheelchairs for disabled people.

J.M. Pascoe, of the Westridge Baptists Church, announced this plan to reporters in Maputo on Thursday, shortly after meeting the Mozambican first lady, Maria da Luz Guebuza.

Pascoe said that the workshop will be set up in Maputo, and will produce wheelchairs to be distributed free of charge to needy disabled Mozambicans.

"Within the next two months we are to start our project in Mozambique, and we intend to train Mozambicans to produce these wheelchairs, so that they continue the project in the future", he said.

During the meeting with Maria de Luz Guebuza, Pascoe offered 10 wheelchairs, that were immediately distributed to 10 needy people, who were selected by the Mozambican Sports Federation for the Disabled and by the Mozambican Association of the Disabled.
