Prof Bruno Bekolo Ebe, Rector of the Douala University, , told the press on April 1 in Douala that preparations are heating up for the 2008 University Games, which is to be hosted by his institution.
He disclosed that nine commissions are at work to ensure that all is set for the games, which will take place from April 20 to 26.
The Rector disclosed that some 2000 persons are expected to constitute the official delegations that are supposed to come from the six universities and other higher institutions of learning, for the games. All the delegations as well as match officials are expected to be in Douala by April 19.
The games will be spread out in many playgrounds in the campuses, like the main campus of the University of Douala at Cité-Sic and other affiliated institutions like the Higher Teachers Training School, and the Institute of Technology, both at Ndogbong Quarter.
Besides the issue of inadequate sports infrastructures raised by the Rector, rain might be another negative factor that the games will face. The rains appear to be making its return in very violent way this year, with floods here and there and with the strong wind having blown off a number of roofs in the town already.
