Angola: Baobabs Resist to Upper Zambezi Temperature

6 April 2008

Luena — Four baobab plants, whose seeds were planted one year ago, in municipal headquarters of Upper Zambezi (Cazombo), eastern Moxico province, normally resist to that region's climate.

According to witnesses contacted by ANGOP, the seed of the plant never existed before in this district and it was planted in 2007, as an experiment, by the district's administrator, Alfredo Muque, in front of his residence.

At the moment, the plants are 50 tall and are developing in a sustainable manner, and therefore, this is a reason for esteem and admiration by visitors, mostly tourists.

Some natives of Cazombo consider having a baobab tree growing in the eastern region of Angola as a rare case. They praised the planter's curiosity that permits the eastern region to have one more tree with a vast tradition on the coastal region of the country.
