Nigeria: Iredia, Obaseki, Abushie Lead Quest for MTN Ticket in Benin

Lagos — When the second regional qualifiers of the MTN Xtraspecial International Pairs tees-off in Benin on Saturday April 5, the eighteen holes course would be parading both seasoned and famous players that are contesting for national ticket for the final.

Chief Sam Iredia is one of the top players expected to swing clubs when the stableford event gets underway at the all green golf course. Iredia is a seasoned category two players would be contesting in the event in the hope to pick up the finals ticket with a chance of representing the country in Scotland at the International finals. Former NNPC boss Gaius Obaseki is also on the cards and would be among the leading contenders for the MTN Xtraspecial International Pairs while former captain of the club, Abushie Odihili is also hopeful of picking one of the tickets to the national finals. According to him; "I have been part of the MTN events in the past. I even won their inaugural MTN Classic and I have always been pleased to participate in their event. I believe a lot of amateur event organisations have a lot to learn from them.

The MTN Xtraspecial International Pairs is one of the two events that make up the MTN Xtraspecial Golf Tour (the other being the MTN World Golfers Championship). The 2008 International Pairs pre-qualifiers was teed-off Ikoyi Golf Club in Lagos on March 15. The Benin leg is the second in the series of five pre-qualifying series. Ikeja Golf Club would play host to the event on April 19th while May 3rd and 31st would be dates for the IBB International Golf and Country Club and Kaduna Golf Club rounds before the national finals on June 7th and 8th at Ikoyi Golf Club in Lagos.

MTN Nigeria is the title sponsor of the event while Guinness Nigeria, Sheraton, OK Computers, International Energy Insurance and Chevron are other co-sponsors
