Liberia: Partisans Speak Out; Crave Urgent Action

7 April 2008

Monrovia — In the wake of observers and partisans called "damaging crisis" within the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC), partisans have spoken calling the swift actions that would save the party from disintegration.

At the same time, the partisans have condemned the bickering and called on the Party's National Executive Committee (NEC) to see reasons and bury their differences to save the institution from collapse.

In a statement issued relative to the crisis, the Chairman of the Party Mobilization and Recruitment, Chief Budu Wilson described the internal bickering as shameful.

He said it has the propensity to bring the party to public ridicule NEC does not act reasonably to save what he called "dangerous and bad political incident"

The release quoted the CDC executive as telling reporters that as grassrooters constituting the largest bloc in the party, and the people whose interest the ideologies and philosophies of the movement should evolved, they are deeply troubled and dismayed over unabated in fights amongst party leaders.

He said the on going leadership crisis that has hit the CDC at a time its members have just begun political recovery from headaches of previous party bloodletting is a paradigm shift that threatens the viability of the entity.

"We are alarmed by the waves of allegations and counter allegations emanation from our national leadership, which appears torn and is now run from the perspective of two conflicting factions.

Such baffling revelation, that has climaxed into claims of the emergence of a new party regime, contrary to the Acting Chairman's "Signature Forged" claims are now challenges that could damage the hard-earned image of the party," the statement quoted him as noting.

"Hence, as these new waves of political brutality challenge the efficacies of the CDC, we wish to remind elements of this anti-progressive confrontation that their actions appeared o deplete the potentials of the party and plunge it s members into disarray".

Against this background, the partisans condemn what they called senseless confrontation existing amongst NEC members and called on them to drop arms before they cause greater damage that could have far-reaching consequences on our chances in future elections.

At the same time, the partisans are proposing the holding of an extraordinary session of the party, bringing together party elders, county chairpersons, district heads as soon as possible to discuss serious party issues NEC can't handle.
