Liberia: "I Made Mistake in CV"

4 April 2008

Monrovia — Anthony Kromah, Minister of National Security designate is facing the full bench of the Liberian Senate having been rejected the Committee on National Security and Defense. As it was with the Committee, he continues to face more problems, retorting earlier statement "I made a mistake in my credentials.

"His appearance is against the backdrop of a motion of reconsideration filed by Grand Cape Mount County Senator, Abel Massaley.

His rejection evolved mendacious statement about his credentials. He earlier claimed to have a Master Degree in Criminal Justice Administration from an American University.

President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf some times ago named Mr. Kromah to head the Ministry of National Security. As required by law, his name was forwarded his name forwarded to the Senate for confirmation, a process that is presently ongoing.

The Senate Committee on National Security and Defense conducted confirmation and advised the Senate not to confirm him on grounds that he lied under oath about his credentials.

Apart from the credentials issue, several employees of the Ministry of National Defense wrote the Committee not to confirm the nominee for acts they claimed he was involved in.

At yesterday hearings, the Minister-designate rubbished the allegations leveled against him and even clarified the issue of his credentials. Taking advantage of what is considered as second chance before the Senate, Anthony Kromah is calculating his words and actions not to be completely rejected.

Standing before the full bench of the Senate, he retorted his earlier statement about his credentials, saying that he made a mistake in his curriculum vitae.

"I'm a true graduate of the University of Columbia with a Master Degree in Counseling with Emphasis in Criminal Justice Administration," he told members of the Liberian Senate.

Besides his Master Degree in Counseling, he told Senators that he also holds two Associates of Arts Degrees in Law Enforcement and a BSc in Criminal Justice Administration from the same American University.

The nominee is a Chairman of the Department of Criminal Justice at the AME Zion University. He also failed to say whether he lied under oath or not, but said that the misrepresentation of his credentials to the committee was largely due to topographical error, and begged for forgiveness.

He said he never lied under oath and he present several photocopies of his credentials. Commenting on the petitions from Liberians, he told the senate that some of his workers were campaigning against his confirmation because he had dismissed them for improper acts such as extortion of money from people.

He accordingly pleaded not guilty to the charges in the petition and begged the senate to see reasons to confirm.
