Angola: Family Minister Says Peace Allowed Women Upgrading

Angolan minister of Family and Women Promotion, Cândida Celeste, said on Saturday that the six years of peace celebrated on Friday allowed women's academic, technical and professional upgrading, as well as their participation in the national reconstruction and rebuilding process.
Speaking to Angop on the occasion of celebration of 4th April, day of peace and national reconciliation in Angola, whose main event took place in Bocoio municipality, Benguela province, she said that in this period women's cultural, professional and academic levels were elevated.
According to the Cabinet official, due to the government investments, enterprising women can start and manage their business in order to grant sustainability.
In her statement, Candida Celeste underlined that these six years of peace also allowed improving the country's medical and medicine assistance, mainly within women and children, aiming at reducing child death rate.
She emphasised that more schools, hospitals, medical centres were built and sensitization campaigns in rural areas were carried in order to inform local authorities and midwives on primary and essential health cares.
"Everything done by the government aimed at facilitating the lives of the population, she argued, to whom illiteracy rate was reduced from 80 to 40 per cent in Angola.

The main event celebrating 4th April was presided over by the minister of defence, Kundi Paihama. It brought together other politicians, religious leaders and businessmen.
