Angola: Government Authorised to Adjust Importing Duty Taxes

Luanda — The Angolan Parliament conceded the Government a legislative authorization to adjust the importing and exporting duty taxes as well as updating the tariff of custom duty, in accordance with the 2007 version of the harmonized system of goods designation and codification.

The measure was published in I Series, number 50, of 18th March 2008, of the State Gazette which Angop had got access.

In the ambit of this legislative authorisation comprises the change of the text of custom tariff, namely the insertion of new two columns with importing duties and consume taxes applicable to imported goods under the public investment and projects.

It also foresees the adoption of measures of protection and fomenting local production, since the policy and reindustrialization program is presented in advance and identified clearly sectors which the country has comparative advantages to other countries and in which industrial production exists.

It also comprises the fiscal and custom taxations adjustment, such as, creating an importing overtax that focuses on custom duty values of drinks and alcoholic liquids, tobacco and its substitutes, cars and other luxurious items.

The legislative authorization conferred by the resolution is conceded for a period of 180 days.
