Kampala — Ugandans who want a career in the United States military, can sign up at the annual convention of the Uganda North American Association, organisers say.
American military recruiters will set up a booth at this year's UNAA convention in Orlando, Florida, and seek out professional Ugandans, said Lt. Frank Musisi, himself an officer in the US Army.
Lt. Musisi, who comes from Kalangala District on Lake Victoria, is the current president of UNAA. He said the US military would also advise Ugandans on the "proper channels" to follow in enlisting. The announcement, which is also on the UNAA website (www.unaa.net), is set to cause a rush to this year's convention that takes place from August 29 to September 1.
UNAA is encouraging interested Ugandans to book flights to Orlando and take a shot at joining the US military. The organisation says it has made a deal with Kenya Airways/KLM for a discounted return ticket at $1,200 (Sh74,400). The conference fee is $190 (Sh11,700).
"All registered Kampala travel agents have been authorised to book intending members," Lt. Musisi said in an email interview.
The tour firm Let's Go Travel confirmed to Saturday Monitor that UNAA had circulated a notice of the discounts. Applicants are being asked to carry their curriculum vitae (CV) suggesting that the recruitment exercise will be a main attraction at the convention.
Public interest in jobs abroad in Uganda is intense. Recruitment and job placement companies which advertise are often flooded with thousands of applications.

Nothing wrong dying for Israel, with a pay...rather than dying for LRA for no pay!!!
You have to been a U. S permanant resident. He is lying.
Serving in the US army would be a good opportunity to many Ugandans and a number of other willing Africa nationals, however, the cost of the process to fly for a job interview in Florida with no guarantee makes it pricey and a dicey issue. The US Army should send recruiters to these African countries and show-case what they have to offer and pre-screen the recruits and pay for the process. It will cost a Ugandan a minimum of over $2300 to make it to this job interview.
Guys this is a distraction from the problems the Ugandan Army has been revealed to have. You know the socalled insurgency in Northern Uganda that has lasted 22 years ? The Ugandan Army Commanders were actually selling weapons to the insurgents, and commiting other crimes like maintaining ghost soldiers in the pay rolls. Can us believe that ? Sort of like the USA Commanders selling weapons to Al Qaeda ? It is really a travesty of good governace for the ruling NRM/NRA to have lied to the country for 22 years that they were fighting LRA when they were aiding and abeting the insurgency. Doesn't anybody see how preposterous that is? Obviously both NRM/NRA and LRA have benefited from the dumb war the socalled insurgency. The issue here is not whether to join the USA army or not but rather to separate the dysfunctional Ugandan politics from the Ugandan Army. Uganda does not need Generals intimidating and threatening legislators and citizens in parlianment nor in the streets. Most importantly as it has been asserted by many Ugandan politicians over the decades: Uganda's problems are political not military. How in the world does Uganda get to celebrate the killing of its citizens during civil wars as heros' events ? Does the USA even have a holiday celebrating the end of the Civil War that Abraham Lincoln fought ? Ugandan politics is dysfunctional because it has failed to separate the military from politics just as church and state are rightly separate. Only in Uganda do you find citizens asking a presidential candidate whether he has support in the military! And instead of "demystifying the gun" the NRM/NRA cult still goes to the bushes of Kyankwanzi to adorn themselves in military regalia to revel in the cult like rituals on a regular basis. Military uniforms and other regalia have their place and meaning, and nobody, least of all the citizens of Uganda should be fooled about it.
This has always been about the citizens of Uganda not Ugandan immigrants in the USA or else where. But as usual whenever the criminal antidemocratic elements are exposed for who they are they try to distract or change the topic. Ugandans want their country back; come 2011. Mugabe is gone; you know who is next; it is time to prepare for 2011 elections; and to give Uganda back to the rightful patriotic Ugandans; to get rid of the liars once and for all.
If joining the USA solved things in Africa Somalia would be stable because General Aidid's son was in the US Marines but when he returned to Somalia nothing changed. And the notion that the USA is there only to fight for Israel is as simplistic as it is ignorant.

I suppose the Ugandans can be used to control a rebellious U.S. population once the Americans finally figure out with their criminal government has been up to.
They can lead us off to the Halliburton/KBR built detention centers and death camps. Any regular citizen would have a hard time with that. Foreigners wouldn't.
Dear sir,
We Ugandans who have never lived in the US, shall we have chances of being recruieted. What are he procedures of registration. Thanx
