Uganda: 30 Students Arrested in Mbarara

Kampala — THIRTY students of Alliance School in Mbarara have been arrested for allegedly damaging the property of a neighbouring school. On April 1, over 100 students of Alliance invaded Manji Memorial School and vandalised property worth millions of shillings.

Fred Kataanzi, the headmaster of Manji, said window panes of five classroom blocks were damaged by the students who were armed with sticks and stones.

He added that Aaron Lutale, a S5 student, sustained a cut on his right arm.

The Police intervened and dispersed Alliance students who had attacked their colleagues at 10:00pm.

The district Police commander, Ivan Nkwatsibwe, said the invasion might have been a result of an earlier conflict between students of the two schools during the recent Mbarara municipality post-primary school sports competition.

Alliance was banned from the race.
