Tanzania: Up-and-Coming Tennis Star Back from Botswana

13 year-old Shabani Ibrahim recently participated in the Africa Junior Championship in Gaborone, Botswana.

The Under-14 Tennis Tanzania's representative in Africa's Junior Championships in Botswana, returned home having earned 20th position among the 32 participants.

Shaaban Ibrahim won his ticket to Botswana after proving himself the best tennis junior player from Arusha region.

Ibrahim's coach Martin Dzuwa praised the boy for his extraordinary talent and called on other youth to copy his example.

Tanzania's other representative in Botswana were Violet Peter and Mkunde Iddi.

Ibrahim's up come in Botswana was stopped by Terodia Tapfuma of Zimbabwe with 6-2, 6-2 sets and Habtanu Tlahun of Ethiopia with 0-6, 2-6 sets.

Violet Peter lost to Godlive Ketego in 6-2, 6-2 sets and Mkunde Iddi was beaten by Pulaye Monya of Lesotho.

During last month's Vodacom Junior Tennis tournament some participants displayed their talents. Abhimanyu Babu won both doubles and singles.

Other stars were Vinay Patel, and Shaaban Ibrahim who made it to semi finals.

The Gymkhana tennis coach, Nico Jones called on the parents to allow their children to attend training as there were a lot of talents to be groomed.
