Edo — Edo government has met about 70 per cent of the World Bank's requirements to enable it to participate in the bank's Community Social Development Project (CSDP).
General manager of the Edo State Community-based Poverty Reduction Projects (CPRP), Dr Gbenga Daodu, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Benin.
Daodu said that with the review of the law establishing CPRP by the state's technical team, Edo was almost set to partake in the World Bank project expected to take-off fully in August.
He said that the reviewed law had already been sent to the state's ministry of justice for a final review before being sent to the State House of Assembly.
Daodu said that government, in February met the requirement with the payment of N100 million, adding that the essence of reviewing the law was to bring it in line with what was expected under the CSDP rules.
He said that a byelaw setting up the local government review committee would soon be passed since the projects would be located mainly in the local government areas.
"This committee, as the name implies, is going to review all projects that will be proposed to this agency for implementation", the general manager said.
He explained that the byelaw for the local government was much simpler since the agency already had a generic bye-law that would be distributed to the local government councils.
