It won't be over until Robert Masitara has settled his debt with the Botswana Unified Revenue Services (BURS).

At least this is the feeling one gets after an interview with BURS attorney Sardique Kebonang following a court order by Justice Ian Kirby ordering the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) politician and businessman to pay BURS an outstanding amount of P889, 687.31 as tax claims covering 2000,2001 and 2002.

"We have received instructions to attach his property," said Kebonang. He revealed that listed items include Masitara's house in Tlokweng, and two Mercedes Benz vehicles.

"We are busy searching for his other properties at the registrar of deeds," said Kebonang.

He added that the judgement granted against Masitara showed that the taxman Freddy Modise has never done anything in bad faith as Masitara had initially alleged.

It was reported yesterday that Masitara had written a letter to Modise proposing to pay a monthly instalment of P5, 000 until his businesses have stabilised to enable him to clear the arrears. It is alleged that the letter also appealed to Finance and Development Planning minister Baledzi Gaolathe to write off the debt. Efforts to get hold of Masitara to respond on his proposal to BURS proved futile as he quickly put down his phone when Mmegi mentioned the topic.
