Labor Minister, Atty. Samuel Kofi Woods, has unveiled a five-year strategic plan being concluded by his ministry.
Speaking over the weekend at the end of a three-day Technical Cooperation workshop for the Tripartite Partners of the Labor Sector of Liberia on the Reform of the Labor law of the country held at a local hotel in Monrovia, Minister Woods disclosed that the Ministry of Labor has concluded a five-year strategic plan intended to review the mission and mandate of the Labor Ministry.
Atty. Woods noted that the five-year strategic plan will also look at the ministry's human capacity need ant to review the organizational structure of the ministry and how that structure can respond to the needs of the Liberian people.
According to the Human Rights activist now Minister in the Ellen-led administration, if there were 22 directors in the ministry; that number would be reduced to at least ten and in the next five years to come it would be further reduced to about six directors.
He stressed that the issue is not just to reduce the number of directors but it is about being more effective and one intended to take the Ministry of Labor out of Monrovia and to build strong structures in the various counties.
The Labor Minister then added that those structures would expand and the authority and logistical support would increase while incentives to the people in the rural areas will then increase.
Minister Woods told the participants that in the next five years, the Ministry of Labor must be a technical ministry and not a political ministry as has been in the past, noting, "In the next five years we will not have five Assistant Ministers as was done before; in fact, there will be no assistant minister."
He said government will appoint the proper minister and his two deputies while the rest will be appointed as director generals who will run the technical affairs of the Ministry in the various counties.

In conclusion, Minister Woods said there is a radical transformation of the system in which, directors will head the Ministry's sub-offices around the country.
