Angola: Ruling Party Praised for Role in Peace Consolidation

UíThe first secretary of Angolan ruling MPLA party's provincial committee in Uíge (north), Pedro Diavova, Sunday here praised his organisation for its role in the consolidation of peace, national unity and reconciliation.

Speaking at a rally which mobilised thousands of citizens, the politician recognised that peace is an essential element for Angolan people's welfare.

"We (MPLA) are engaged in consolidating national unity and reconcile all Angolans and also forgive those who committed any evils to this people," he said, highlighting the role played by the president of the ruling MPLA party, José Eduardo dos Santos, in the search for peace in the country.

The member of the ruling MPLA party Politburo stated as well that the party will work hard to develop the country, appealing to all Angolans to contribute.

Currently, the government is engaged in the reconstruction of the country in order to change the living of the populations, he added, mentioning as an example the province of Uige, where the rehabilitation of the Quifangondo/Caxito/Negage road is considered as a peace gain.

The politician also highlighted the creation of Uige office for technical management of the Public Investment Programme whose work of rehabilitation and reconstruction of several social infrastructures like roads, electricity in cities and villages are improving the population's living.

Pedro Diavova also urged the youth turning 18 years of age until September 5 this year and those who could not register for election on due time to do so now.

He appealed to all who illegally possess firearms to surrender them to the authorities.

During the event, held after a big march of ruling MPLA party militants, members of its women and youth wings (OMA) and ( JMPLA), respectively, and friends, holding messages in support for the organisation's extraordinary conference set for May this year and for the president of the party, José Eduardo dos Santos.
