The main celebration of the World Health Day (April 7) in Angola is being hosted Monday in Sumbe city, central Kwanza Sul province, under the motto "Protect health from the effects of climatic operations".
According to the provincial delegate of the Health Ministry, Adão Castelo, climate changes are the cause of the rapid growth of infected diseases among the populations.
In order to change this situation, he said, Kwanza Sul government is developing programmes of environment protection and sensitising the population with the purpose of improving their living standard.
Adao Castelo stated as well that in the last three years, with the achievement of peace in the country, the health sector in the region has been recording a significant improvement concerning the increase in sanitary infra-structures and qualified assistance to the population.
The official added that currently the sanitary network in the region comprises 12 district hospitals, two provincial hospitals that include a maternity and other specialities, 14 health posts and 18 centres to assist a population estimated at nearly 1.5 million inhabitants.
The event will be attended by the deputy Health minister, José Van-Dúnem, the local governor, Serafim do Prado, provincial directors of Health, representatives of the World Health Organisation (WHO) and of the Environment Ministry.
The April 7 was declared World Health Day in 1948 by the WHO.

The date is annually celebrated on April 7, with the purpose of warning the populations on the main public health problems.
