Gambia: Swedish Police to Train Gambian Police

Bijou Peters

7 April 2008

The news that the Swedish Government proposes to send or has already sent a team of their police force to train Gambian police is welcoming and heartening news indeed.

The public is grateful for this initiative from the Swedish Government because the training from the Swedish Police Force will help our police a great deal by making them a more disciplined and efficient force. It was reported that the training will be geared towards peace keeping tactics, but all the same, it should help our police in executing their duties in the communities professionally.

In recent years the public has been dissatisfied and disenchanted with the police force due to the attitude of inefficient officers whose misconduct sometimes a cause for concern. We commend the team of Swedish police who will be dispatched to The Gambia to help train their counterparts in The Gambia. We wish them well and a happy stay in the country.
