French Ambassador to Cameroon, Georges Serre, made the disclosure after an audience granted to him by President Paul Biya on Friday.

Bilateral and multilateral issues concerning France and Cameroon were at the centre of an over one hour audience granted the French Ambassador to Cameroon, Georges Serre on Friday, 4 March 2008 by President Paul Biya. Speaking to the press after the tête-à-tête, Ambassador Georges Serre said they discussed the possibility of a contingent of Cameroonian troops to join the peace maintenance missions within the Central African Economic and Monetary States, CEMAC zone. He said they also discussed matters related to the Central African Economic zone, the CEAC, as well as agreed on a number of areas for cooperation between Cameroon and France.

The Ambassador said they also talked on the European Union declaration of 27 March published in Brussels on the Constitutional debate currently going on in Cameroon. Ambassador Serre, last had formal talks at the Unity Palace with the President on Friday 1st March 2008.

After the audience granted him at the presidency of the Republic last March, the Ambassador not only visited Bakassi but has been following several other developments taking place in Cameroon.

Thus, the French diplomat lauded recent measures being taken by the Head of State, Paul Biya to improve on the leaving standards of Cameroonians. According to Ambassador Georges Serre, the population has reasons to feel satisfied that their concerns were being taken seriously by the government.

Finally, he noted that recent measures to combat corruption in Cameroon were equally salutary given that they were going to stop the culture of impunity in the country.
