Eritrea: President Inspects Development And Infrastructure Projects in Southern Red Sea Region

Assab — President Isaias Afwerki conducted a tour of inspection in the Southern Red Sea region from April 3 to 5, during which he inspected the implementation of different development and infrastructure programs, as well as fisheries activities.

The President visited a fisheries plant in Assab and exchanged views with pertinent heads on upgrading the plant and forwarded opinions to tackle some shortcomings. He also visited a jetty of fishing boats, during which he listened to the views and demands of traditional fishermen. Moreover, President Isaias visited Assab port and received briefings from the port manager on the ongoing infrastructure works and the port's activities.

In the course of the 600 km-long tour of inspection, the President visited different fisheries products and ice production plants in the evolving semi-urban centers of Berasole, Edi and Ti'o, during which he was briefed on the progress of the implementation of potable water supply projects aimed at providing reliable potable water to the inhabitants of the semi-urban centers.

Following a meeting with the local inhabitants, he observed the construction of the Edi small-sized hospital in sub-zone of Central Denkalia at a cost of 12 million Nakfa. He was accorded a warm welcome by the inhabitants and received briefings by project supervisors.

Furthermore, President Isaias visited a three-star hotel in Ti'o under construction through the Mussa Ali Construction Company aimed at promoting tourism services in the region.

Following the briefings he received on ongoing development programs and that of harnessing fishery resources, President Isaias reminded the experts engaged in the activities to work hand-in-hand with members of the public in reinforcing endeavors to achieve food security.

The President concluded his tour of inspection after observing the mobile phone service infrastructure and different social service facilities.
