Botswana: Miss Limkokwing Botswana 2008

Nineteen-year-old Tsholofelo Hope Seabelo has triumphed as the first beautiful girl to be crowned Miss Limkokwing Botswana 2008 after she won the university's inaugural beauty pageant at the Ozone Night Club Gardens in Tlokweng last Friday before a capacity crowd.

This was the first pageant of this nature hosted by the university from Malaysia since it set up in Botswana a year ago.

The new queen showed what she is made of when she recited an entertaining poem about herself earlier on during a hyping talent show by all 14 contestants.

Again, after making the top six, she positively answered a question procedurally posted to her by the judges. The question was about the new liquor laws on operating hours.

Sounding well versed about current affairs, the confident Seabelo answered the question right, much to the satisfaction of the judges, among them Mike Clink of Barclays Bank and Botswana Television's news reader Benson Phuthego.

Though magnitudes of patrons had expected first princess, Kgomotso Kemoabe, to walk away with the golden crown, that was not so with the judges who had been persuaded by Seabelo. Kemoabe had a modelling height and confidence; but perhaps she did not answer her final question well enough.

However, the Kanye-born Kemoabe did not go home only with the First Princess crown; she was also announced the most photogenic contestant. Julia Ntsile became Second Princess.

After her victory, Seabelo told Showtime that the crown did not come as a surprise to her because she had always competed in beauty pageants. Born in Mochudi, she had previously been First Princess in Miss Naledi Secondary School before being admitted to Limkokwing University where she is a first year student.

"I had always loved modelling. I want to pursue it in my spare time," said the lovely girl who is doing an Associate Degree in Advertising at Limkokwing University.

She admitted that the competition had been "very tough" and said she was glad to have come out at the top. She said he other contestants had given her a scare, but not enough to be intimidated.

Before then, Morwesi Lekwalo had won Miss Congeniality, Kediretswe Moremi had won a prize for imitating newsreaders in a talent show, and Lucy Mmamelodi had been crowned Best Overall Dresser.

Event organiser Mercy Thebe could not state the benefits or prizes that go with the Miss Limkokwing crown. She pointed out that there was still going to be a prize giving ceremony where all sponsors would be invited. Mascom, The Voice, Mmegi, the Monitor, Cresta Lodge, Kingfisher, Ozone and Limkokwing University management sponsored the event.

"This was really a good show despite starting late. We managed to elevate the mood of the people. Thanks to everyone who contributed to the success of this show," said Thebe, Limkokwing's head of events and faculty management.

She explained that though it was their first such event, it had gone well. "If there is something that we did not do well, we intend to improve next time."

Meanwhile, musicians who performed at the event treated the audience to a memorable show. The likes of Stagga, Zeus, Mapetla and his back-up singers P-Mag and Skazo, kept everyone on their feet.

Even though hip-hop son Zeus's time on stage was interrupted by an unexpected technical problem, the young artistes eventually won the hearts of the youthful crowd.
