National Sports Commission director-general, Amos Adamu has made the African Championships billed for April 30, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia a must for Nigeria's top athletes.

Adamu is insisting that the likes of Olusoji Fasuba, Damola Osayomi, Franca Idoko and others participate as it will be part of their training programme for the Olympics billed for August in Beijing, China.

Gabriel Okon who is technical adviser to the NSC director-general disclosed that Nigeria will send a strong team top Addis Ababa with the hope that the athletes will use the championships to fine-up, most especially their baton exchange ahead the Olympics.

"Adamu is particularly interested in the African Championships, because it is part or our training. He wants all our top athletes to be present, so that we would properly access our readiness for the Olympics.

Okon said in Lagos.

Adamu who is driving Nigeria's preparations for the Olympics is particularly concerned about the relay team as it is presently the best prospect for gold at Beijing 2008 and as such he wants the quartets to

rehearse their act at every given opportunity.

"This is why he has agreed, in principle, to bring Innocent Egbunike in. He wants him to be part of the athletes' preparations and not when they are about to go for the Games," Okon a former international sprinter added.
